The Promises of God

The Promises of God

So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.

Hebrews 6:17-18 (ESV)

The Promises of God are sure, and we can rest our hope for the future in Him! He is our anchor of Hope.

We cannot live without hope. When we cease to hope, despair about tomorrow seeps in. If we have no hope, we see no reason to go on. Hope is absolutely essential for mankind to live and work and have a meaningful existence. How true this is of eternity. If a person has hope of living forever, he does not fear or dread to face the end of this life. We can trust the Promises of God for they are sure and dependable!

The following is from Lewis Smedes and his commentary on making a promise.

What a marvelous thing a promise is! When a person makes a promise, they reach out into an unpredictable future and makes one thing predictable: they will be there even when being there costs them more than they expected to pay. When a person makes a promise, they stretches themselves out into circumstances that no one can control and controls at least one thing: they will be there no matter what the circumstances turn out to be. With one simple word of promise, a person creates an island of certainty in a sea of uncertainty.

When a person makes a promise, they stake a claim on their personal freedom and power.

When you make a promise, you take a hand in creating your own future.

How much more when God makes a promise!
